User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Great Lens For the Price
I do a lot of photo editing with the pen tool and wanted a lens that had less chromatic aberration than my kit zoom. I am very satisfied with results and the speed. I had initially seen a review of this lens on the Photoshop User website. If you are looking for a prime lens and are on a tight budget this bears looking at. I am shooting with a D80.

5 Stars As Advertised
Lightweight and fast, this lens works beautifully with my D40. The autofocus is accurate, but the ease of manual override is a nice advantage. If you’re thinking about buying one, you should.

5 Stars A must have lens!!!
This lens is a must have. It will instantly make you a better photographer. I’ve used this lens on all holiday events inside the house and all pictures are perfect. It’s great for low light photography, portraits and it also produces a nice bokeh. This lens has always been in my camera ever since I had it. Well worth the money. So far I’m very satisfied with this purchase.

5 Stars Lovely fist full of prime lens
As others have noted, while it’s mostly plastic, it’s got a heft to it that says serious lens. This is my lens of choice whenever I can fit the subject into its field of view. I love the low-light ability and the sharpness of the resulting photos. Hard to beat the price, either.

5 Stars Opens up a new world
My nephew visited over Christmas and he took some phenomenal low-light pictures with his Nikon D90. My wife continued to rave about them, so I asked him what he was using and it was a Nikon 50mm F1.8 lens. I looked at the lenses I had for my D5000 and the lowest aperture was f3.5, which meant low-light pictures necessitated either a) a flash or b) a faster lens.

I paid a visit to a local camera store and I found that the 50mm f1.8 lens necessitated that I move too far away to get environmental portraits of my son, but the 35mm lens was perfect. Having used it for the past week, I’ve been astonished at the shots I can now take with this prime lens. It’s so nice to have equipment that opens up new opportunities to take pictures where it wasn’t worth the time before. Last night I was in downtown Washington, DC at dusk–normally I’d write off taking any sort of decent picture without a flash, but with this lens I was able to take some great pictures.

A lot of this newfound capability has more to do with physics and having the proper equipment, but the sharpness, clarity, and construction of this lens is very tight. I like that it comes with a manual on the lense along with a durable bag for storing the lens in your camera bag. I recommend this lens without reservation to anyone looking for a nice prime lens. The going rate on Amazon.com right now is ~$249, but if you’re patient and you call around you can probably find one for closer to $200. I think the higher price is more of a supply/demand issue and expect prices to drift lower over the next month or two.
